Why is this relevant?

Browsing a website from your actual location rather than through a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is important for several reasons, primarily revolving around the accuracy of information, compliance with legal requirements, and ensuring appropriate access.

Accurate Content and Services:

Websites often provide content and services tailored to specific geographic regions. This could include localized news, pricing, availability of products/services, or language-specific content. Accessing a website through a VPN may misrepresent your location, leading to inaccurate or irrelevant content being displayed. For example, you might see prices in a currency that doesn't match your actual location, or services that are not available in your region may appear accessible.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance:

Many websites and online services are subject to legal and regulatory requirements specific to certain regions. For instance, data privacy laws such as GDPR in Europe or CCPA in California impose restrictions on how personal data is collected, stored, and processed based on the user's location. Accessing a website through a VPN might mask your actual location, potentially leading to non-compliance with these regulations if you're interacting with content or services not meant for your actual geographic area.

Security Concerns:

VPNs are often used to enhance online security and privacy by encrypting internet traffic and masking IP addresses. However, some websites might restrict or block access from VPN IP addresses due to concerns over abuse or malicious activities. Attempting to access such websites through a VPN could result in denied access or additional security challenges.

Quality of Service:

Some websites or online services might adjust their performance or service levels based on the user's geographical location. This could affect factors like server response times, network latency, or overall service quality. Using a VPN might inadvertently route your traffic through servers that are not optimized for the best performance, impacting your user experience.

Ethical Considerations:

From an ethical standpoint, accessing content or services through a VPN to misrepresent your location might violate terms of service agreements or undermine the principles of fair use and access intended by content providers.

Todd Gilbey

Non-Independant Executive Director

IMC, BA. Hons

Product Design Engineer (Python, Mql5)

Appointed:

June 2023

Previous employer:

Norwich International Airport Limited

Todd began his career in the seafood retail sector with the British supermarket chain Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC. Starting on the shop floor, he quickly demonstrated strong operational instincts and a talent for managing fast‑paced environments, earning a promotion to Fish Bar Manager. His early career also included work as a passenger handling agent for KLM Airlines B.V., where he gained frontline experience in customer service, logistics, and high‑pressure problem‑solving.

Alongside his early professional roles, Todd also gained experience in television and film production. He appeared in the U.S. network Reelz documentary Frontman, starred in director Brian Herzlinger's holiday feature movie Christmas in Plumhill Manorr, and starred to the Netflix investigative documentary Skandal: Wirecard. These projects gave him exposure to creative production environments and broadened his communication and media skill set.

In 2017, Todd transitioned into the international financial services sector, joining The deVere Group—an advisory firm specialising in financial guidance for expatriates (distinct from the hotel chain of the same name). Based in Malta, he worked as a recruitment consultant, supporting the firm’s global talent acquisition efforts and developing a deeper understanding of the financial advisory landscape.

Todd’s relationship with Blue City Capital began even earlier. He joined the firm in 2011 while still at university, initially as a trader. His technical aptitude and systems‑driven mindset soon propelled him into a more specialised engineering path. Over time, he rose to the role of DevOps Engineer, taking responsibility for the firm’s entire system infrastructure. In this capacity, he ensured that all trading and operational systems were efficient, resilient, and cost‑effective—balancing performance with budget discipline.

In 2023, as Blue City Capital began the complex process of transitioning its corporate structure to the United States, Todd stepped into a broader operational leadership role. He oversaw the full transition effort, coordinating regulatory, technical, and organisational components of the move. By 2025, the transition was successfully completed, with the company now incorporated in the State of Delaware and operating from its U.S. office in Dallas, Texas.

Today, Todd continues to play a central role in shaping the firm’s technical strategy, operational stability, and long‑term growth.
